Chapter 7

Going outside for one of my fifteen-minute breaks so I could call Donita and talk to her about what had happened earlier between me and Rich, I turned my phone on and saw that I only had one text-message. Now I'll be honest with you I was kind of shocked. I'd expected Rich to blow my phone up trying to make amends for what had happened earlier. Checking the message, I saw it was from a number I didn't know and opened it.

"I'm some shit. I know. I don't know what came over me and I know sorry won't even cut it. I'm shook. I feel like I died already. Like somebody else is living in my body. I

need you. I need you to help me find me again. I'm scared of what will happen without you. Like without you I have

nothing but that. Please don't leave me. I really, really need

you."

After reading it, for the longest ten-seconds I just stood there and looked at the message. A lot was going through my mind. I honestly didn't see myself able to go through what I'd been through the last couple of months again. Add to that his actions earlier and I was fast approaching the point where I didn't even want to be anywhere near him. But I too had to recognize the reality of the situation as well. He was fast approaching the edge, and it could be that I was the only one that could bring him back. Or, at least keep him from jumping over the ledge.

Shaking my head at the craziness of my life, I started walking towards the sidewalk and dialed Donita's number. Knowing her she'd definitely have some useful advice for me. She was really good at doing that.

"Hey girl," she said when she answered my call. "I hear you had some excitement at work today."

"Charleston," I stated, while slowly shaking my head.

"Bitch, you know these hoes can't keep their mouths shut," she said. I was wondered who was the hoe that had told her. I knew she really didn't like Cerissa, and as far as Cerissa was concerned the feeling was mutual so she wasn't the one.

"I know," I said, "but let me tell you what really happened," I said, and told her everything that had happened. Even the message that I'd just read.

"I really feel sorry for you," she stated, which wasn't what I was expecting. "I know you love him, and he knows it too. But I don't see any good coming from this."

"What if he stops using?"

"And when that happens what if he starts again?" she replied. "Or what if he says he's stopped, but really didn't?"

"I can't go through what I've been through again," I replied, really having no answer for that one.

"Then get on with your life, or force him to get his shit together," she stated. "That is if you still love him."

"I do, but not enough to drive myself crazy," I said. "Been there done that.
